We'll begin December 1 and end February 28. We believe that birth workers need breaks—time to rest from our labors and to give our undivided attention to family. We will take off December 18-January 1. You'll still have 12 weeks with your circle!
December 1, December 6, December 13, January 3, January 10, January 17, January 24, January 31, February 7, February 14, February 21, February 28
Guest Speaker Masterclasses (subject to change)
December 2, December 16, January 13, January 27, February 10, February 24
All of these live trainings and masterclasses will be recorded and available to you for the duration of the program. Stay tuned for peer review dates and private consult scheduling.
Who will the guest speakers be?
We're creating an amazing line-up of some of the most thoughtful birth professionals we know! We're drawing from our network of wise doulas, doctors, biomechanists, midwives, nurses, and advocacy experts who align with our values of honoring physiology and of supporting informed empowered choice. Every one of them has incredible insight to offer in 90-minute live masterclasses (including Q&A!) held twice a month.
Can I stay involved after the 3-month circle ends?
Yes! Any Intentional Birth Pro grad will have the option of paying $49/month to continue receiving invitations to guest speaker masterclasses and to peer reviews, and to maintain access to the Intentional Birth parent course materials.
What will the 12 weekly trainings cover?
We're going to cater our trainings to some extent to the doulas who have joined each circle. We'll employ science, sage wisdom, and SO many stories in our teaching. You can be sure that we and our guest masterclasses will cover:
Birth physiology and variations of normal
Preparing clients honestly for physiologic birth and alternatives
Preparing clients for self-advocacy and informed choice
Helping clients prepare body and mind
Effective communication with clients and care providers
Honesty, bias, and values
Burnout, logistics, and family challenges
Confidence and power in the hospital birth room
Tools for supporting hospital birth; tools for supporting home birth
Tips for protecting the sacred 2nd and 3rd stages of birth
Proactivity v patience during a birth
Self-responsibility, accountability, and self-care
Running a smart business and receiving good income
Preventing and healing trauma
The list goes on!
Will there be recordings of the live trainings?
We emphasize the importance of presence in this program. But we're all birth workers here! Yes there will be recordings of every training available to you for the duration of the program.
What kind of participation is expected from me?
Like everything in life, you are going to get out of this what you put into it! We want you to show up for these trainings, and share with the group. This is hard for some people, either logistically or emotionally—we get that, and we're ready to receive what you have to give. Are you ready to reach just a little?
We welcome your full participation in every live gathering, and also on our Marco Polo thread. (Don't worry! We'll set boundaries and prompts for the group so this is not overwhelming.) We trust you to invest your time in the ways that are most valuable to you as you participate.
How can I be sure that I will feel "safe" with the other doulas in my circle?
Bring a friend! :) But here's our answer: what are you going to bring to the group? Are you determined to make this a place both of growth and belonging for the other doulas? Then you are the kind of doula we want and welcome into our circle. AND, we're keeping this circle intimate, small enough for you to feel that you can open up and share but big enough for you to draw on the wisdom of the group.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes! We offer a 3-month payment plan, at $587 per month, after you have placed your $400 deposit.
Need more flexibility? Please reach out to us.
Why should I do this?
This work is hard—you can't get around that any more than a birthing woman can. But we want to create an environment for your work that allows you to breathe, to learn, to restore, to connect, and to feel loved. That's how you birth a baby.
We want to guide you to your most fulfilling, empowered work—the same way we guide our birth clients: with honesty, with high-quality information, with stories, with accountability and mentorship, with love.
If in your doula work you have experienced (or want to avoid) burnout, loneliness, overwhelm, a lack of knowledge in a critical moment, feelings of inadequacy, or dissonance between the births you are seeing and the births you believe in—we want to circle around you!
And all of that aside, this is your chance to dig deeper in your work, learn from some fantastic birth pros, add tools to your doula bag and brain, and be a part of a new like-minded community.
Will this opportunity come again?
We will be offering this 3-month program again! We think it's possible that your best time is now, but if you decide to join us later we will be waiting with open arms.
Is this a doula certification program? Do you offer CEUs?
No, this is not a certification program. (But we're gonna be honest—it is far more robust and relevant than the very official doula certification trainings we took when we got started). We will provide you with a badge and certificate showing that you completed the program!
We do not offer CEUs at this time.
What’s unique about Meredith & Alicia?
Alicia is a successful doula agency owner, and before that made multiple six figures as a solo doula. Meredith is a Restorative Exercise Specialist (RES-CPT) with an emphasis on perinatal biomechanics. Between us we’ve attended births in over 30 hospitals nationwide, and supported hundreds of families through “physiology first” pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Over the years we have seen fewer and fewer clients experience traumatic births, as we have discovered what they truly need from us.
Philosophically, we emphasize personal responsibility, parental autonomy, and a physiology-first approach to birth (and life). We believe that caring well for someone means being wholeheartedly honest with them, and then standing with them in love, whatever they choose.
We stand on the shoulders of giants, and we’re grateful to be friends and collaborators with so many people whose birth work and thinking we admire. In fact, that’s one unique thing about us: our network of really smart friends and mentors, who will soon be yours too! Check out our recent Trusting Birth summit lineup.
We’re both mothers, women of faith, women of the world, women of the mountains, memoir readers, researchers, lovers of the arts, real foodies, homeschoolers, homebirthers, and easy friends with just about anyone.
I'm ready! How do I sign up?
Yes! We are ready for you too! You can save your seat by placing your deposit. Stay tuned for a feast of connection and learning!
