2 Live Days of Life-Changing Advocacy Tools
KNOW YOURSELF. KNOW YOUR CLIENT.
Let's Stop Trauma in its Tracks
We'll teach you how to identify your values and your personal advocacy style. You'll learn how to prepare the team for effective communication at every stage, and how to stand for your client respectfully and efficiently, stepping out of the hospital hierarchy.
Expand Your Toolbox
Ever feel at a loss for words? We’ll show you everything in our advocacy toolbox: Respectful Confrontation, Captaining Your Ship, Drafting the Staff, Bringing in a Witness, and more! Over 20 unique and effective tools that you can utilize in every scenario.
Get Comfortable Through Practice
We will practice these tools together until you feel you've mastered them and feel confident in your ability to use them!
LEARN THE LANDSCAPE.
Understand the Hospital. Know the Law.
A good advocate understands what makes hospitals tick, what the client's legal rights are, and what is the doula's legal role. We'll take you behind the scenes. (Our tools can reduce trauma for hospital staff too!)
BOOST YOUR CONFIDENCE.
It's Time to Feel Like a Leader
You get to lead your client in advocacy by modeling it. (We'll show you what your role is and how it differs from your client's.) You also get to be a leader in the birth room, modeling respect and consent. Believe us, you CAN feel confident in your role.
NICE TO MEET YOU
We're Meredith & Alicia
Two seasoned doulas and moms of 6 children, founders of Intentional Birth .
Over a decade ago we attended our doula trainings where we were taught not to speak up on our clients behalf. Don't rock the boat. Doulas don't advocate. Smile and nod at care providers.
Then we began attending births and we realized that our clients were walking away feeling powerless and traumatized (we were too). We knew there was a bigger role for us to play.
Ten years later, we are transformed (though there is no final destination in this work). We have strategies for confidence, detailed systems for educating and preparing our clients, and a whole tool bag of incredible communication and advocacy tools. We want to share it all with YOU!
"Before this retreat, I was feeling very inadequate and felt I needed something to help my clients know when to accept an intervention and when to stick to their guns. The tools acquired in this retreat was just that! We got to practice advocacy and the simulations became so real, that felt you were in that hospital room. I am walking away feeling more confident and prepared for every birth setting."
- Eva Wingo
"I felt so at home sitting in a circle of so many true-hearted doulas, with all ranges of experience. We learned A LOT, practiced many new-to-me advocacy tools in simulations of real-life interactions, had lots of fun and laughs, and amazing food. If you are a doula and have the opportunity to attend this retreat, please do!! You will be challenged and SO blessed!"
- Erin Berg
